Thinking about issues, artists and critics in terms of my final essay, my interest settles in the issue of power, and who holds it in the Indigenous art infrastructure. Looking in particular at Jimmy Pike; who, in some opinions, may have been a victim of exploitation and whether his success in the Indigenous art market has been a asset, and Richard Bell; a contemporary artist that composed a thesis covering this issue - "Aboriginal art, its a white thing".
Here are some notes of topics that may be covered;
Indigenous Arts Infrastructure
Richard Bell – Thesis “Aboriginal art, its a white thing”
Historical background - Papunya Art mural
Aboriginal art industry – Where does all the money go? Do they want the money?
Was it western pressure the cause of the Aboriginal art boom?
Jimmy Pike – marketing – white superiors/stakeholders
Nicholas Rothwell ( challenging critic )
Issue of sacred designs being publicly shown and distributed
